In CRM Enterprise you change the setting to availability check using SAP R/3 in the IMG for Customer Relationship Management under Basic Functions ® Availability Check ® Availability Check Using SAP R/3 ® Define Middleware Parameters: Availability Check Using SAP R/3.

When you carry out availability check using SAP R/3, the system
Transfers requirements to production or purchasing
Reserves stock
Carries out scheduling for delivery and transportation
SAP R/3 transfers the results of the availability check back to the business transaction in CRM Enterprise.
